تعد جائزة السلطان قابوس للثقافة والفنون والآداب احد اهم الجوائز في العالم العربي الممنوحة في مجالات الادب والثقافة والعلوم وهي جائزة سنوية تمنحها سلطنة عمان للاحتفال والاعتراف بالمساهمات التي يقدمها الأفراد أو المنظمات من أجل الترويج للثقافة والفنون والموسيقى والأدب والمجالات ذات الصلة، ولقد تأسست الجائزة عام 1992 وسميت على اسم السلطان قابوس بن سعيد آل سعيد الذي كان سلطان عمان من 1970 حتى وفاته في يناير 2020 وكان هناك اهتمام كبير بهذه الجائزة وتتم خلال مؤتمر صحفي يتم الاعلان عنه من قبل أمناء الجائزة، وتقدم من مركز السلطان قابوس العالي للثقافة والفنون.
وتهدف الجائزة أساسا تعزيز ثقافة التميز في مجال الفنون والآداب والثقافة لتعزيز هوية الدولة وتراثها، وكما كان يهدف إلى تشجيع الفنانين والكتاب والناشطين الثقافيين على مواصلة عملهم والاعتراف بجهودهم في تعزيز ثقافة البلاد وتراثها، حيث دار الجائزة من قبل وزارة التراث والثقافة بسلطنة عمان، وتتبع لوائح صارمة قبل وضع اللمسات الأخيرة على الفائزين، وهناك مجموعة من الاهداف التي تسعى تلك الجائزة الى تحقيقها منها نشر الادب والثقافة في البلاد.
ويتوج الفائزون بهذه الجائزة بمبلغ مالي مهم وميدالية وشهادة، وهو ما يعتبر فرصة لعرض أعمال عدد من المختصين في مختلف المجالات المعنية بالجائزة على منصة وطنية ودولية، والترويج لفنونهم وثقافتهم إلى جمهور أوسع، كما يحصل الفائزون على اعتراف دولي، مما يعزز سمعتهم ويساعدهم على مواصلة عملهم بثقة وتحفيز أكبر.
